Standing firm by its outdated corporatist credentials, Italy’s Istituto per la Recostruzione Industriale state holding company has refused to sell software and systems implementation house Finsiel SA, which does much of its $1,070m annual business with the bloated Italian public sector, to Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA’s Olivetti Information Systems, which does $550m a year in software and related services, mainly in Italy: Olivetti is extremely keen to expand its software side and so is now expected to look for acquisitions outside Italy; it hotly denied press reports that it planned to sell Olivetti Information to Cap Gemini Sogeti SA, France.
