OLIVETTI DENIES UK RATIONALISATION RUMOURS

By CBR Staff Writer

Ing C Olivetti SpA has categorically denied that its UK systems integration business is about to axed or that it intends to cut its workforce to 500 by the middle of next year (CI No 2,206): a spokesman at the firm stated, in fact, that outside of Italy, the UK operation is second to none and the systems integration business is the jewel in its crown; it turns out that eight employees lost their jobs this week, but the redundancies were across the board and not limited to one department; Olivetti emphasised the importance of its services business, saying 1,000 of a total 1,486 staff were employed in this field and that it generates more than 50% of UK revenues here.
