OLIVETTI AND DEC CONSIDER LINK-UP

By CBR Staff Writer

Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA has been looking for an alliance with a stronger computer company, and with nobody left in Europe that fits the bill, and Japanese companies regarded as the enemy on the continent, all that is left is a US company, and Digital Equipment Corp’s president of DEC Europe, Pier Carlo Falotti, reportedly said at the Telecom ’91 show in Geneva that DEC has not ruled out some kind of closer business link with Olivetti, which was a major OEM customer for PDP-11s for most of the 1970s, and which now supplies DEC with personal computers to sell in Europe and portables for marketing worldwide.
