Wringing maximum value out of its disparate technologies, Olicom A/S, Copenhagen, Denmark is now shipping what is claimed as the first Token Ring PC Card to incorporate 33.6Kbps modem capability and the ability to send and receive data over cellular networks as well. Called the GoCard TRN/Modem 336, the Simple Network Management Protocol-manageable Type 11 PC Card is being pitched at notebook users requiring communications on the move. It is basically a souped-up version of the company’s existing GoCard, which has a modem speed of 14.4Kbps. Wired phone communications is provided as standard, and the company is also giving users the option of a Cellular Support Kit for communications to cellular phones. Olicom has included its PowerMACH drivers, said to support all major network clients including NetWare, Windows95, Windows NT, Windows NT Advanced Server, and LAN Manager. Delrina Corp’s WinFAX Lite and WinComm Lite facsimile and terminal communications software has also been thrown in, as has CompuServe Inc’s client software. The product is out now for $630. There is no word on pricing for the Cellular Support Kit.
