Just when you thought you were safe from any more acronyms, Danish Token Ring boards supplier Olicom A/S has announced the Controlled Attachment Module, CAM, a hybrid Controlled Access Unit, CUA – silly us, we thought that was IBM Corp Common User Access, and the Lobe Attachment Module, LAM. According to the company, the CAM brings the benefits of intelligent hub technology to small workgroups and branch offices that have previously found such systems too expensive to implement. For a list price of $2,200 you get immediate support for up to 10 workstations, full support for SNMP as well as LAN Network Manager/NetView, and Out-of-band management, says Olicom. The product is also equipped with connections for two additional local networks, making a total of 50 Token Ring lobe connections possible, it comments.
