OLE DB EXTENDED FOR ODBMS, SECURITY, MORE

With OLE DB extensions for geospatial data and OLAP already under its belt, Microsoft Corp says a further set of APIs are to be added that will support Windows application access to data stored in object-oriented databases. Moreover together with partners it didn’t want to name, Redmond is also looking at creating OLE DB APIs which operate a higher level than the current set, providing for example functions for which wrapping up business rules so they could access multiple data stores or provide application-to- application communication and integration. Both Microsoft and partners are expected to market application- or vertical market- specific API sets. Microsoft is also known to have APIs in hand that will add layers of security to OLE DB data using new wrappers business.
