There’s no question of major Japanese companies exporting their lifetime employment ethos to any of their operations outside Japan, and Oki Semiconductor Corp has announced that in response to the downturn in market demand for integrated circuits, product oversupply, and the erosion of semiconductor prices, its Oki Semiconductor unit in Sunnyvale, California is restructuring its marketing, sales, engineering and support organisations and that 50 marketing, sales, engineering and support positions will be eliminated at headquarters and through the closing of the Tarzana, California.; Atlanta; Horsham, Pennsylvania; and Rolling Meadows, Illinois sales offices. The reductions represent 30% of its workforce.
