Oki Electric Industry Co Ltd is taking novice help and has a pact for joint development of 64M-bit DRAM chips with Taiwan’s Nan Ya Plastics Corp. The deal will lighten Oki’s development costs for the chips while Nan Ya will be able to produce 64M-bit DRAM chips by around the year 2000. The development cost is put at $800m to $1,000m. Nan Ya is a member of Taiwan’s biggest private industrial group, the Formosa Plastics group. In May Oki agreed to provide technical assistance to Nan Ya to design, process and assemble 16M-bit DRAMs. Nan Ya is expected to begin making 16M-bit DRAMs in late 1996 with a monthly output 10,000.
