Troy, Michigan-based OIS Optical Imaging Systems Inc has been signed to a co-operative development agreement by Apple Computer Inc for the development of high-performance active-matrix liquid crystal displays for Apple’s next generation of notebook computers: in the first phase, OIS will develop a high-performance, active-matrix display to Apple’s specifications with the development phase including manufacture and delivery of advanced prototype displays to Apple; production versions will follow, initially in limited quantities from OIS’s new facility which is under construction in southeastern Michigan; the agreement also allows for delivery, assuming successful completion of the development, of larger quantities from a potential high-volume manufacturing facility that is currently still in the design phase.
