The UK Office of Telecommunications says it will not accept British Telecommunications Plc-approved new telecommunications equipment from January 31, 1990. The date represents a three month extension to the deadline originally set by the telecommunications watchdog on British Telecom’s Teleprove approval body, as some suppliers have taken longer than expected to finalise testing arrangements; these suppliers have been ad vised to resubmit to the British Approvals Board for Telecommunications, which will now handle them. British Telecom has only been approving equipment submitted to it before November, 1988, as a result of an earlier Oftel directive. The move is part of a trend to still further deregulation of UK telecommunications.
