There’s only one year 2000 but the UK now boasts two organizations dedicated to raising awareness of the problems it will pose for computers. Don Cruickshank, director-general of the telecommunications regulator Oftel, is to head Action 2000 – an organization set up by the government. It will take over government funding from Taskforce 2000, whose executive director Robin Guenier made the fatal mistake of publicly criticizing the government for its lack of action over the issue.
