The UK arm of Octel Communications Inc has launched its voice messaging system for Northern Telecom Ltd’s Meridian family of PABXs in Europe. The Wokingham, Berkshire company claims to be the first in the UK to offer an alternative to Northern Telecom’s own systems, although it has been offering it in North America for over five years and says that these systems represent 20% of its worldwide installations. Its digital integration kit is called the Digital Meridian Integration Device and provides a direct link to the new digital interfaces on the Meridian 1. It is claimed to offer full integration with key features including forward to personal greeting, message notification, multiple return to operator, direct call for message retrieval, outcall-ing and reply to message left by a subscriber in internal telephone answering mode. The system has UK approval, and comes in 12- and 24-port models, at from UKP2,500.
