OAK TO PAY $112M CASH FOR OPTICAL PARTS MAKER LASERTRON

Cable television equipment manufacturer Oak Industries Inc plans to acquire Burlington, Massachusetts manufacturer of optical components for the telecommunications and cable television industries Lasertron Inc for $112m in cash, to be met from existing cash balances at Oak and the target, and part of a new $200m five-year credit facility. Oak expects to report several one-time non-cash charges, including third quarter charges of about $75m from write-off of in-process research and development.
