French object database company O2 Technology Inc, now headquartered in Palo Alto, California, is ready with its promised Java Relational Binding, enabling developers to read and write Java applications into and out from relational databases (CI No 2,873). It includes a development environment and run-time version. From the description of a set of Java classes, the development tool creates an equivalent relational schema and methods to read and write objects in the database. The methods perform the mapping between Java objects and their relational representations. The run-time code runs atop a Java DataBase Connectivity layer and manages an object cache, which O2 says improves performance. Objects are automatically mapped into the database format. Prices start at $2,000 per user.
