Communications company O2 has signed a three year agreement to provide free wifi to restaurant and pub operator Mitchells & Butlers’ through O2 Wifi, its public Wifi platform.

The agreement will enable O2 to launch its Wifi hotspots to Mitchells & Butlers’ 1,600 UK restaurants and pubs across 13 brands, offering guests the access to free wifi irrespective of the mobile or broadband provider the guests have.

O2 Wifi is designed to address the drawbacks of current public wifi offerings by being fast, free to customers, said O2.

The wifi hotspots are accessed through a sign-up process and are free to both O2 and non-O2 mobile customers.

All hotspots are public hotspots, delivering a user experience, which will soon also allow people to access additional services, including entertainment and mobile payments.
