NYNEX WINS APPEAL AGAINST BELL BREAK-UP VIOLATIONS

Nynex Corp won its appeal against a lower court’s verdict that found it guilty of criminal contempt for violations of the Bell system break-up decree: in February, Judge Harold Greene imposed a $1m fine on Nynex for willfully violating the decree’s ban on Baby Bells offering information services; the alleged violations stemmed from operations of the Telco Research Corp software unit, which had provided computer access to MCI Communications Corp.
