Nynex Corp has signed a letter of intent with cable television operator Viacom Inc for joint development of new entertainment services in the US and here in the UK: the pair will explore the development of video-on-demand applications drawing from the extensive libraries of film and television programming controlled by Viacom and Paramount Communications Inc in the northeastern US and will also work together to create interactive versions of Viacom’s cable networks; in the UK, they will begin a study of the television audience to assess the market potential for programming options such as video-on-demand, a new movie channel, new basic cable channels, special eventtelecasts and interactive services.
