Nynex Corp is restructuring its operations and will begin to market all its products and services under a single Nynex brand, including the services offered by its New England Telephone and New York Telephone units; the restructuring will include a single telephone number for customer service and simplified billing; New York Telephone will continue to remain divided into three market areas – lower Manhattan, the rest of New York City, and suburban and upstate areas; New England will be divided into two market areas, one for Massachusetts, and the other for Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont; it will centralise support and strategic planning, to eliminate overlaps; sales channels, property, personnel and engineering functions previously maintained by each company, will be consolidated at the cost of up to 400 jobs; it will also establish a new corporate planning office and a new mergers and acquisitions unit, it added.
