Nynex Corp has developed a trial network for its scheduled Frame Relay Service: Digital Equipment Corp and Northern Telecom Ltd are trial partners and the trial will link four of DEC’s local branch offices via a Frame Relay service node at Nynex’s Network Services Development Center in Manhattan: the network will connect DEC’s computer systems at the four branches using DEC’s own routers and Phase IV Frame Relay software; the branch offices, which exchange electronic mail, documents and large data files on a regular basis, have previously been interconnected by 9.6Kbps private leased lines, and with Frame Relay, each office will be capable of transmitting at 56Kbps using a single digital access line to the Frame Relay node.
