NYNEX CABLECOMMS LOSSES DOWN, REVENUES UP

Nynex CableComms Group Plc has seen increased penetration in both residential and business telephony and in cable television, bringing losses for the year to December 31 down. The company reported pre-tax losses of 6m British pounds, down from 47m pounds last time, on revenue that rose 78% to 151m pounds. Nynex says residential telephony penetration increased to 27% from 24.6%, with the number of lines up 50% to 349,260. Business telephony saw lines increase 133% to 33,287, with the fourth quarter seeing the greatest ever addition of lines, some 8,350. The company says business revenue now represents 10% of revenue, up from 7% last year. The company’s cable television penetration was up slightly to 20.6% from 19.8%, with an increase in customers of 36% to 268,519. Nynex has also introduced new products such as bundled telephony and cable television packages, impulse pay per view and Basic Rate ISDN. Nynex president and chief executive John Killian said the company was continuing to focus on the key areas of its business while assessing the potential merger wth Mercury Communications Ltd, Bell Cablemedia Plc and Videotron Group Plc (CI NO 3,077).
