Nynex Corp’s Nynex CableComms Ltd has chosen General Instrument Corp to be its primary supplier of cable television equipment for its broadband systems in northwest England with a system including the General’s access control technology for transmission of 60 television channels and a range of multimedia services; Nynex also gave Nokia Oy a contract worth about #100m over the next six years to supply telecommunications infrastructure for Nynex’s telephone network, which will run on the same in the north-west; the contract covers DX200 digital switching systems, transmission and network management systems; the switches will initially support 100,000 lines and strengthen Nynex’s ability to deliver high quality, differentiated phone services.
