Nvidia Corp has said that it will vigorously defend itself against what it called the nuisance lawsuit brought against it by 3Dfx Interactive Inc this week (CI No 3,501). Nvidia says that it has not yet been served with a formal complaint regarding the suit – in which 3Dfx alleges that Nvidia is using a patented multi-texturing technology in its Riva TNT chip. In response, a spokesperson for Nvidia claimed that the multi-texturing technology used in the Riva TNT chip was fundamentally different to that used in 3Dfx’s flagship product the 3D graphics chipset, Voodoo2. In a prepared statement, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, said of the litigation: In light of recent admissions by 3Dfx, we can only speculate that they are turning to legal remedies in order to stay profitable.
