NVIDIA unveils suite of super phones, powered by Tegra mobile super chip

Supports hardware-accelerated Adobe Flash Player

By CBR Staff Writer

NVIDIA has launched the next wave of super phones, powered by its Tegra 2, a mobile super chip.

These new super phones deliver multimedia experiences that take fuller advantage of faster network download speeds and higher bandwidth.

NVIDIA said the smartphones feature four-inch-plus screens, single-core 1GHz mobile processors, five-plus megapixels cameras, and multiple microphones, which enable a decent video and gaming experience.

The new super phones use multi-core CPU processors, lightning-fast GPUs and ultra-low power requirements that create video and gaming experiences.

The company said the new smartphones provide seamless multitasking and support for hardware-accelerated Adobe Flash Player that merge the smartphone, with a game console and multimedia device.

The first device in this next wave of super phones is the new LG Optimus 2X powered by Tegra 2 and features: Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU; and Ultra-low powered (ULP) NVIDIA GeForce GPU.

NVIDIA has developed a reference implementation of HD video conferencing on Tegra 2-based tablets using SkypeKit, which is a collection of software and APIs that allows virtually any Internet connected device to offer Skype voice and video calls.

NVIDIA also introduced the Tegra Zone app, which is expected to allow consumers to find Tegra-optimised games for their super phone or tablet, along with professional game reviews, high-res screenshots, HD video trailers, gameplay videos, and behind-the-scenes featurettes.
