Nvidia has introduced the GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics processors that are based on the company’s flagship Maxwell chip architecture.

The new architecture has improved features compared to its previous generation Kepler.

Both the processors have a 256-bit interface, 4GB of GDDR5 memory, and are capable of running at 7Gbps.

The two new GPUs include Dynamic Super Resolution which is designed to provide 4K quality graphics on 1080p display.

Multi-Frame-Sampled Anti-aliasing (MFAA) is used to further enhance the image quality and reduce the frame rate when enabled in a game.

Nvidia has also added Voxel Global Illumination, a new lighting technique that improves the quality of image. It also enables developers to use dynamic light sources in the game environment.

According to the developer, the VR (virtual reality) Direct added to the GPUs is designed to enhance performance, lower latency and increase compatibility for VR headsets.

NVIDIA co-founder Jen-Hsun Huang said: "Maxwell has been years in the making, inspired by our gamers, and created by the best minds in 3D graphics.

"Its extraordinary performance, efficiency and technologies will empower developers to do their finest work and delight gamers worldwide."

The GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 are available at some of the add-in card suppliers including Colorful, ASUS, Gainward, EVGA, Galaxy, and Gigabyte.
