A team of computer graphics and multimedia architects, application specific integrated circuit and system software developers have established NVidia Corp, a company that will provide semiconductor and software products to enable personal computer systems to present high-quality interactive multimedia. NVdia began operations in January 1993 and employs 23 at its Sunnyvale headquarters. It is backed by a combination of venture capital and corporate technology funding totalling $10m through 1994. The two venture partners are Sequoia Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures, but the corporate partner is not yet disclosed. NVidia has targeted its first generation Media Accelerator at the home market. The initial product from NVidia, to be introduced in autumn will be a single-chip Media Accelerator, the first in a family of products based on the NV Unified Media Architecture. The company sees the NV Architecture as the strategic cornerstone of the company and it was developed to enable the integration of high bandwidth digital media into a single coherent hardware interface.
