According to a study published by Moscow-based research company Russia Data Services, in the first six months of 1995 the Russian locally assembled personal computer market grew 72% compared with the same period in the year before. The study, The Russian Personal Computer Assembly Market, finds that 414,000 were shipped by Russian personal computer manufacturers in 1994. The study predicted sales of 590,000 in 1995 for Russian-made personal computers. Russia Data Services finds Moscow-based VIST to be Russia’s largest computer assembly company. Formed in 1992 (CI No 2,665, CI No 2,763), the firm has agreements with Intel Corp. The dramatic growth in the first half of 1995 is partly explained by an easy comparison – the first half of 1994 was weak – plus the complete absence of the traditional seasonal lull in Russia in the summer.
