Nuance has unveiled the latest version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, its desktop speech recognition software.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 11 claims a 15% improvement in accuracy levels while allowing users to create documents, send emails, surf the web and update Facebook and Twitter with their voice. Users can control almost any aspect of their PC through voice commands, Nuance said. The company claims voice commands can be up to three times faster than typing.
Users can also scroll through open windows, open and close documents and applications and search specific website using voice control.
Nuance has revamped Dragon’s user interface and added in a sidebar that offers hints and tips as well as help. Out of the box set up should take around four or five minutes and the application will continue to learn the more a user interacts with it. If a user makes changes to text the system will add them to its vocabulary, which Nuance says will improve accuracy in the long-term.
The new version can also transcribe audio files, but only recordings that contain the users voice, the software cannot currently support multiple voices.
"Speech has proven itself – on the desktop, on mobile devices, and even in cars – to be a more natural interface, allowing people to simply speak to keep up with their ideas, their communications, and their work. Our goal with Dragon 11 was to make the software not only as accurate as possible, but almost transparent, empowering people to focus on simply letting their ideas flow, straight from their brain to the page," said Peter Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager, Dragon, Nuance.
Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 comes in a number of different versions and prices. The Home edition starts at £79.99, while the Premium edition is £149.99. A Professional version is also available, costing £549.99.
