NTT TO OFFER CHIPS ON THE MERCHANT MARKET THROUGH UNIT

Following the example of AT&T Co when it was allowed to enter unregulated businesses after divestiture of the regional Bells, Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp is to start offering chips on the merchant market through its 50%-owned NTT Electronic Technology Co unit: the first part to be offered by the company is an encription-decription chip, Feal 8, which is claimed to be almost five times as fast as the Data Encription Standard developed by IBM and adopted by the US.
