It may not be much, but mony a mickle maks a muckle and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone has found something else it can buy from the US – cable splicers which tie damaged cables together and include by-pass circuits to prevent interruption of service: it is initially buying five each from Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing, 3M, of St Paul, and Fujikara Ltd of Japan, and from next year expects to spend some $6.5m annually on the things.
