NTT TO BEGIN TRANSMISSION OF HIGH-DEFINITION TELEVISION OVER OPTICAL FIBRE TRUNK LINES

Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp plans to begin transmission of high-definition television over optical fibre trunk lines across Japan: the digital transmitter will send HDTV signals at 100Mbps, and in future, NTT plans to use satellite communications and ISDN to distribute HDTV signals; Tokyo Telecommunication Network, a subsidiary of Tokyo Electric Power is also testing a high def TV system.
