The NILFS (New Implementation of a Log-structured File System) project has been developed by NTT Cyber Space Laboratories and is designed to continuously and automatically save snapshots of the file system without interrupting service to improve recovery in the event of system failure.
The NILFS technology has been developed via NTT’s involvement in the Open Source Development Labs Data Center Linux project after the Tokyo, Japan-based telecoms giant joined the open source advocacy group’s membership in February 2004.
NILFS has been released under the GNU General Public License and is available for download now from www.nilfs.org/.
