Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp is forbidden to manufacture its own computers, but is free to design machines for manufacture by others, from which comes the DIPS-11 family of proprietary processors: enlisting the manufacturing support of Fujitsu Ltd, Hitachi Ltd and NEC Corp, it has developed a new medium-sized office computer, the DIPS-V30EX, with built-in Integrated Services Digital Networking support, enabling text, data, graphs and images to be sent between terminals and larger computers at low cost: replacing the DIPS-V30E office computer, the new one has 4Mb main memory and is designed to be connected directly into the telephone company’s public INS Net 64 digital network.
