The NTT Data Communications Systems Corp arm of Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp has received a $40m contract to help build a payment network for China’s central bank, the China Daily reported. The project will include a national processing center for the payment system in Beijing, with a back-up center in Wuxi in the eastern province of Jiangsu, and will also include 20 clearing and processing centers at the municipal level and 80 county-level branches. In a future expansion for which no contract has yet been let, the project will be expanded to include installation of systems in other city-level processing centers, linked by a network.
