Ziff-Davis’ Computer Intelligence unit estimates 112% more Windows NT product went through dealer channels in the first quarter of 1997 compared with the same period in 1996. Compaq, DEC, IBM and HP are the favored NT server platforms, while half of all NT server sites are businesses with less than 50 employees. NT servers are found at only 24% of IBM mainframe sites and 22% of Unix server sites which seems to go against the prevailing thinking that most Unix users are getting NT up alongside their existing systems. Manufacturing companies account for 30% of all NT server installs; 22% services; 11% government; 7% finance/insurance; and 7% education.
