The software will be provided for oncology departments using Varian’s VARiS Vision oncology information system.
Don Beeler, president of NSI Software, said the technology was chosen to help healthcare providers maintain a high quality of patient care and comply with regulatory compliance requirements by providing real-time, asynchronous replication and semi-automated failover between two servers
According to the agreement, Double-Take will be utilized to enable Varian’s new High Availability and Rapid Recovery Protection product (HARRP) to restore patient information rapidly in the VARiS system. In the event of a routine network failure or a catastrophic outage, the oncology department can still access data.
The program also allows HARRP to replicate changes in data as they occur, at the byte level over a shared or private IP-based network, aiming to ensure that data is protected regardless of when changes were made.
Treatments are based on a mountain of data about the patient’s anatomy and treatment plan, explains Christopher Hanna, Varian’s vice president for oncology information systems. You do not want a patient showing up for a daily treatment, and finding that the doctor cannot proceed due to data loss. HARRP will help to ensure that situation doesn’t arise.
