Network Software Associates Inc has introduced the Elite LLC Pak, a series of network licences that combine the 3270/Elite and 3270/ElitePlus micro-to-mainframe communication emulators for use on IEEE 802.2 local area networks: the company claims to be the first to offer such licences for Token Ring and Ethernet local area networks directly connected to a mainframe using the 802.2 Logical Link Control protocol; workstations connected to an 802.2 LLC network typically access the host via an 3174 controller equipped with an IBM Token Ring Interface Coupler card, and 802.2 connections can be formed via a 3745, AS/400, OS/2 Extended Gateway or PC/3270 Gateway; the Elite LLC Pak is available in six configurations, starting with Elite LLC Pak 100, which provides 3270 emulation for 100 workstations for $18,000, and ranging up to LLC Pak 5000, which provides 3270 emulation for 5,000 users at around $300,000.
