After conducting Siemens, Plessey and sundry others on guided tours around Sperry’s Eagan, Minnesota chip facilities over the past six months, Unisys Corp has pulled the design and fabrication plant off the market, and decided instead to seek a buyer for the Burroughs facility in Rancho Bernardo, California. According to Electronic News, the Rancho Bernardo plant, renovated and expanded to 280,000 square feet in 1981, is now considered the more redundant. If Unisys cannot find a buyer, it may close the unit outright; no word yet on price, but the $50m it was asking for Eagan was seen to be a bargain.
