UniComp Inc, of Marietta, Georgia, although all its most interesting work is done at Unibol Ltd – the former Software Ireland Ltd in Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland has decided that just the place for IBM Corp’s System 36 users when they get sick of getting locked into a proprietary system is to jump not to Unix, but to another proprietary operating system, Microsoft Corp’s Windows NT. It says that its Unibol36 rehosting software is now up under NT so that System/36 users can have a System/36-compatible development and execution that surpasses the functionality offered by IBM’s own operating system. Available this month, Unibol36 NT incorporates the standard Unibol functions such as Desktop Terminal emulation facilities for personal computers running Windows; Desktop ODBC, which enables Unibol36 to import and export data with any ODBC-compatible Windows application; and provides support for both Cobol and RPG II. The company did not give prices for the Windows NT product.
