The Commonwealth government-owned Telecom Australia is clearly in the market to become a more diversified commercial organisation and is prepared to enter joint ventures to achieve its aims: following its agreement to form a joint company around Hewlett Packard Co’s business computer marketing operations Down Under (CI No 995), it has now signed an agreement with Britain’s Systems Reliability Plc. The two have agreed to form Advanced Network Management Pty Ltd with the Luton company holding a 40% stake in the venture. Systems Reliability is providing its telephone monitoring and information management systems, and the new company will also offer electronic directories and network management systems and services; it is due to open for business next month. It will also look beyond Australasia and into South East Asia. Systems Reliability is also in the mood for marriages: it has just acquired circuit board maker Bowes (CI No 1,000).
