Those companies that invested early in developing basic networking software for AT&T’s Unix System V.3 Streams communications mechanism are at last reaping the benefits; after Sun’s decision to sign for rights to use Lachman Associates’ Streams TCP/IP product for forthcoming SunOS 4.0 and potentially System V.4 products, the Wollongong Group, whose WIN/Streams family is already endorsed by AT&T for System V.3, has picked up a contract with NCR Corp to provide TCP/IP networking software for the Tower range of Unix supermicros. The agreement covers Wollongong’s Streams-based WIN/TCP on the range from the Tower 200 to the top-end 800/850 and its value is estimated at several million dollars.
