MiniScribe Corp, Longmont, Colorado has now been hit by the problem that has dogged Seagate Technology Inc since the summer OEM customers and reseller channels clogged with excess inventory of 5.25 Winchesters – in MiniScribe’s case primarily 380Mb drives. The company is cutting out overtime and reducing headcount by natural wastage at its Longmont, Singapore and Hong Kong plants, but says that it will have to make some lay-offs too, to cut output and give its customers time to rebalance their inventories. Numbers to be cut will be announced when all numbers are in.
