NOW LUCENT ACCUSES ACER OF PATENT INFRINGEMENT

By CBR Staff Writer

The legal industry must be turning cartwheels at the way the summer is shaping up: after the closing bell last night Lucent Technologies Inc filed suit against Acer Inc and its US affiliates claiming the Taiwanese PC giant has infringed eight of its patents, which affect Acer’s desktop and laptop products. The patents cover semiconductor manufacturing; technologies speech and video coding; and computer display technologies. Lucent claims it had made repeated attempts to negotiate licensing agreements with Acer, but Acer refused to cooperate. The company would not say what kind of damages it was seeking or how long the alleged infringement has been taking place. Calls to Acer were not returned.
