Marking its third acquisition this week, business intelligence software vendor Hummingbird Communications Inc announced its acquisition of French data transformation and exchange tool company Leonard’s Logic SA on Thursday. It will pay approximately $20.4m in cash for the company.

Paris, based LeoLogic’s Genio tool will be used by Hummingbird to offer a turnkey package for rapid deployment of data marts, integrated with its own business intelligence tools. It will also be integrated with the Financial Frameworks risk management software Hummingbird agreed to acquire from Context Inc the day before.

Hummingbird is currently building up the components to complete its Enterprise Knowledge Portal. On Tuesday, it announced that it had agreed to pay $155m for document management firm the PC Docs Group. PC Docs itself has only recently swallowed search engine firm Fulcrum Technologies Inc.

Genio is intended to provide organizations with consistent, accurate and inter-related data for central access and administration, for use by data marts, data warehouses and OLAP environments. The company was formed three years ago by a group of engineers from SGS Thomson SA that developed a product to capture data from a wide variety of systems including relational databases and mainframe file systems and populate either a relational or multidimensional database. The product was initially developed for Thomson’s in-house use. It is in use at some major French companies, including France Telecom and the French operation of Smith Kline Beecham Plc.

Hummingbird said that under the terms of the agreement, Leonard’s Logic’s president and other key personnel would continue to be employed. á
