NOW DEC HAS 600MHZ ALPHA CHIP, MOTHERBOARD

Digital Equipment Corp has added a 600MHz version of its Alpha 21164 microprocessor for workstations and servers, rating it at 2,400 MIPS or 18.0 SPECint95 and 27.0 SPECfp95. Samples are available now, and the company has also come out with an AT form Factor motherboard, the AlphaPC 164LX, to support it. The 164LX enables designers to create Alpha workstations and servers using standard components for high-performance Windows NT applications such as visual computing, computer- aided design, financial analysis, and Internet servers. The board will be available in the summer. No prices were given for either.
