Following the agreement under which it signed the Inventec Group of Taiwan to make a new notebook computer line (CI No 2,595), Compaq Computer Corp has turned to Mitac International Corp, also of Taipei, Taiwan, to develop and manufacture a number of desktop computers for the consumer market for launch in the second half of the year. Compaq will manage all design, engineering, manufacturing and test procedures with Mitac to ensure that the machines meet its quality and reliability standards but the machines will be manufactured at Mitac’s factories worldwide. Compaq’s first major alliance was with Citizen Watch Co, Japan, which was responsible for development and manufacture of the LTE Lite notebooks.
