NOW ADVANCED RISC MACHINES WINS DEAL WITH SAMSUNG

By CBR Staff Writer

Advanced RISC Machines Ltd of Cambridge has now won Seoul-based Samsung Electronics Co as a licensee for its ARM6, ARM7 and ARM610 technology. Initially Samsung will embed the 32-bit RISC technology into its own peripheral products, including hard disk controllers, laser printers and multimedia processors. Under the terms of the agreement, which are undisclosed, the two firms will jointly develop technology in emerging markets where computing, communications and consumer electronics converge. Advanced RISC Machines said that this agreement fits in with its of policy of taking on partners to broaden the use of its technology into new market areas. Samsung said it chose the technology because of its combination of high performance, low cost and low power consumption and the ease of integration that it offers. It will start sampling initial products using the processor core in 1995. Samsung Electronics revenues were $10,000m in 1993.
