Novell Inc has announced NetWare 386 3.1, an enhanced version of NetWare 3.0 aimed at the third party server applications market. It features an open server application programming interface for third party application developers; an enhanced file system up to 30% faster at accessing files; extended management services and architecture to support multi-protocols, as well as a full implementation of IBM’s Token Ring source routing and EISA support. It has an ANSI C programming environment with Posix interface for MS-DOS-like programming simplicity in a 32-bit environment. Disk mirroring can now extend to to eight mirrored drives. Users of NetWare 2.0 and above can upgrade, which for v.3.0 users simply means copying updated files. The thing costs $8,000 and is out on June 29.
