Novell Inc, one of the cheerleaders at the X/Open Co branding event last week, says that now the standards side is out of the way, it wants to get going on its own UnixWare branding scheme, which will probably be announced at UniForum in Dallas. The two will not clash, it says, the Unix brand being all about standards and plug and play, while the UnixWare brand is all about the most dominant player, the best price-performance and so forth. UnixWare itself is 95% of the way towards conformance to the Unix brand, and will have to wait for full conformance until the next release, towards the end of this year. Does this mean it should set an example and drop the Unix from UnixWare?
