It’s clear that Robert Frankenberg is very much his own man, and we won’t be able to second-guess what Novell Inc might do by recalling earlier moves and attitudes that were set by Ray Noorda: PC Week reports that Novell is to phase out Novell DOS 7, the compatible superset of MS-DOS that Novell bought with Digital Research Inc, because Frankenberg has decided not to compete directly against Microsoft in the MS-DOS market; Novell will continue to support DOS 7 users; a big round of lay-offs is in the wind, with some observers saying numbers could go as high as 2,000; the firm currently employs 9,500.
