Waltham, Massachusetts-based Novell partnered with Senforce to launch its ZENWorks Endpoint Security Management offering in June, describing it as enforcing security policies to control device ports, wireless connections and applications, as well as to guarantee data encryption.
Senforce is the latest of a number of small companies offering endpoint security technologies like NAC and encryption, to have been snapped up by bigger players. First was Sygate, which went to Symantec, 3Com bought Roving Planet, Endforce was acquired by Sophos, Pointsec went to Check Point and PatchLink acquired SecureWave. Meanwhile StillSecure’s NAC technology is OEMed by Extreme and HP.
Our View
This is further evidence of a trend towards consolidation in the endpoint security/NAC market. While a handful of startups like Mirage, InfoExpress and Bradford are still soldiering on as independents, the bigger fish have either developed their own technology (Cisco and Juniper, for instance) or have acquired or OEMed it.
